Radisson Hotel Ontario, CA Wedding Day Photography

Happy Friday :D

In fact, this wedding was a “Happy Friday”, it was a wedding for this lovely couple that knows each other for almost their entire life that was held on an early summer Friday in June. This was a cozy wedding, where family members were put to the first.

When the mom of the Bride saw her daughter in the wedding gown, her tears couldn’t be hold back. What a lovely scene for the “first look” from the bride’s mom.

And hey, there are actually a lot of elements that you can use to take your wedding photos to another level at this hotel. For example, the bar… make sure to go there to take some pictures and have a drink with your husband/wife before it closes earlier than your wedding concludes. =D

Santa Monica Annenberg Community Beach House Wedding

It was a warm and sunny day at the Santa Monica Beach Annenberg Community Beach House. Having a wedding on the water front at the beach is actually a very unique experience, you will have all the sunshine (which there’s plenty in SoCal), and the ocean breeze will calm you from the Sun’s heat. And in the evening, you will have the most amazing backdrop that you’ll ever dream about in a wedding — a beach sunset, that golden soft glowing Sun, the painterly sky with pink, oranges, purple colors, and in occasions, beautiful cloud formations!

But here’s a tip for you brides that wanted to do a beach wedding : choose a short veil and have hairstyles that are up-do or with braids, because ocean breeze could be strong some times.

My clients flew back from Philadelphia to have their dream beach wedding, where the bride and groom were actually lived. Friends and family members all flew from across the country to the warm and sunny LA to attend this wedding, while majority of the East Coast were still hitting by snow storms; in a matter of fact, a lot of the guests got their flights back to the east coast cancelled due to the weather after the wedding. But who would mind to have a bit more sunshine in LA? Especially that was your friends’ wedding!

Engagement Session at the fabulous Mission Inn, Riverside

A while back, my clients and I visited one of my favorite venue to shoot their engagement session. Which venue was it, you ask?

It’s the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa, located at about 60 miles from downtown Los Angeles, in the heart of downtown Riverside. This is a truly special place in Southern California, because former US President Nixon had his wedding held at this very same hotel; President Reagan had his honeymoon here; and eight other former presidents were stopped by this place,  Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft,Herbert Hoover, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Gerald Ford, and George W. Bush.

Having a wedding or taking engagement photos there at the Mission Inn is like having a journey in time. The Mission Inn was built all the way back in 1902, and constructed in a wide variety of architectural styles. Mainly influenced by the Spanish Colonial and Renaissance styles.

Therefore, when you are looking to take engagement photo or pre wedding photo, or even having your wedding there at the Mission Inn Hotel. You may want to prepare your wardrobe more tailored to vintage style, or very modern. As booth style dresses would make it look timeless  in this venue.

Without further ado, here are the pictures taken in an engagement session from Mission Inn.

Calamigos Equestrian Wedding – Los Angeles Photographer

It was in Mid March, a warm sunny day in Los Angeles. This couple chose a wedding venue that has been one of my favorite, the Calamigos Equestrian; located just north of the city of Los Angeles, right next to the Walt Disney and ABC studio.

The Calamigos Equestrian is also known as the “little white house”, which, it indeed has a white barn house for the bride and bridesmaids to change up and get ready for the wedding ceremony. Not only the Calamigos Equestrian has lush trees around the ceremony site, but also a wide open grass field with shades from the trees; this provide excellent opportunity for photos, especially wedding photos all year round.

On the day of this couple’s wedding, both the bride and the groom were both naughty ones. The groom and his men had cartoon cuff links that are subtle, but enough the tell their personality. Just before the wedding ceremony happens, I was able to get a Vanity Fair like photo for both the girls and the boys of the bridal party; this start becoming something I really like to do, when I am out shooting wedding photos for my clients. Because after all, a wedding transform a boy into a man, a girl into a lady.

For the whole time, the groom had never seen the bride and her dress, so when the bride walked down the aisle in her white wedding gown, he couldn’t hold his tears. And that, for me is a priceless wedding photo, with true emotions that will remind them in the years to come, how much they have loved each other.

Summer Bridal Hair with Fresh Flowers {Stylized Photo Shoot}

Last weekend, my makeup artist Tobey Leung  and I woke up at 5 in the morning and went to the Los Angeles Flower Market in Downtown Los Angeles for some fresh flowers; all these effort was to create a glimpse of the summer trend for brides here in Southern California.

11080947_10205428837053891_5506180616990390241_n

with the easy access to fake floral hair pieces today, many makeup artists and brides will opt for that option, as those hair pieces are not only cheaper, but also lasts longer throughout the wedding day.

But, we take it one step further, and wanted to show brides what it could be when using the real flowers. As we’re living in the warm part of the country in Los Angeles, we have no shortage of fresh flowers, although each season has its unique range of flowers, they give a unique touch to your hair style different time of the year.

After doing the makeup and hair, the texture truly wowed me, the pedals of the real flowers make it so meaty, and full of life on our model’s head. Our model of the day was actually a bride-to-be in May, as well as a makeup artist herself. she really loved Tobey’s idea of having real flowers. I guess this will soon become our team’s trend of putting real flowers on brides. ;)

Valentines – Post Wedding Session – Guangzhou China

Happy Valentine’s Day! I wish all my past clients will always as sweet as the day you walked down that aisle. And wish all you newly engaged couples and soon-to-engage couples your sweetness never ends.

I am so happy to share this album with you guys today.

This couple married back in Dec 2014, if you remember from a few posts down below; because I wasn’t able to shoot their engagement earlier last year, so I gave them a post wedding session in Guangzhou.

We shot from the morning, near the old district of Li Wan (as it means Lychee Bay, where there were a lot of lychee trees a century ago), to Sha Mian (Sha Mian Island was a small “island” that is only a few football field size, but is a very symbolic place in history, as most of the foreign embassies resided on that little place), to the newest district of Zhu Jiang New Town, where the old meets the new, the east meets the west.

Enjoy the pictures folks, and again, happy valentine’s day!

Grace E. Simons Lodge Wedding | Los Angeles Wedding Photography | Andy Lu Weddings

Before my vacation last year, I have an opportunity to shoot this couple, who are serving our country.
Their choice of wedding venue was the Grace E. Simon Lodge, a great place to host a smaller wedding like their, but it is for sure a hidden gem located right next to the Dodgers Stadium in Downtown Los Angeles.
Behind the lodge, is a nicely planned waterfall with a bridge going across the stream, lush trees in the background provided some colorful backdrop for pictures.

During their big day, it was drizzling quite a bit before and during the ceremony; and luckily, my assistant and I went prepared, as always, with extra LED lights to light up their ceremony!
And because it was drizzling, I have an opportunity to take one of the shot that listed way on top of my favorites list last year. The first two pictures below.

This was the second of the two overseas wedding that I have shot during my vacation in China. The Groom, was my elementary school classmate 20 years ago, who also working in the photo and video production industry there.

During this wedding, I have the opportunity to work with some talents across the pond, exchanged tips and techniques, and laughs.

Not a huge wedding in terms of production, but definitely a warm and loving one.

Congrats to FC and Renee.

Overseas Wedding – Nanson & Faye | GuangZhou, China | Andy Lu Wedding Photography

During the holiday seasons back in 2014, I traveled back to GuangZhou, China, where my hometown was. Shot two weddings with two pairs of lovely couples.

Real Chinese wedding in China, how fake can it be, right? hahaha… However, different parts of China has different traditions. For Example, that in southern part of China, after the groom picks up the bride, the married would go around the city in a big loop, before going back to the groom’s house; for a meaning of “get a big round of luck”.

If you’re ever thought about to do a overseas wedding, let me know!
